Why Hampton Students Choose to Train at KHMP

  • Low-traffic, non-towered home airport
  • Class B radio experience close to home
  • IFR-certified Cessna 172 training fleet
  • One school from Private Pilot to CFI

KHMP is a non-towered airport with minimal traffic, which means less time waiting to taxi and more of your lesson spent actually flying. At the same time, the airport's position south of Atlanta lets you practice real-world radio work near the Atlanta Class B airspace without starting every lesson at a major commercial airport.

You train in IFR-certified Cessna 172s equipped with dual Garmin G5 displays and the Garmin 650Xi, with GFC 500 autopilot in select aircraft. The same local fleet supports you from Private Pilot through Instrument, Commercial, and Flight Instructor ratings.

  • As the mother of a 19-year-old who recently started flight lessons at Speedway Flight Training in Hampton, Georgia, I can’t express enough how incredible this experience has been for our family. … The quiet airspace at Atlanta Speedway Airport allows students to learn without feeling overwhelmed by busy skies, while still giving them exposure to professional-level aviation operations.

  • Great place to train and fly. I received all my flight training here, private through Certified Flight Instructor. The owners have always ensured the planes are in great shape and regular maintenance is up to date. Very affordable cost to rent the planes with the integrated avionics, autopilot and primary flight display. The instructors are top notch and care about their students progress and success. The airport is quiet, 5,500ft runway with really cool views of Atlanta Motor Speedway. Overall, I would definitely recommend trying out an introduction flight with Speedway Flight Training and see where it takes you.

  • Speedway flight training is by far the best flight school on the south side of Atlanta. The planes and instructors are top notch. Speedway airport is fantastic for flight training. It's not too busy which allows for more training and it also has a nice fbo and staff.

  • I just got my PPL at Speedway Flight Training. The experience was fantastic, and I recommend it to anyone. The aircraft were always in top shape (very rare; trust me), and the instructors were awesome. The airport itself is a great place to learn. I wholeheartedly recommend SFT to anyone looking to start their aviation journey.
